Project: Internet Access Redesign

The designs presented here correspond to different steps of a corporate project.

The client's Internet access was gradually redesigned to accomodate new needs relative to the creation of an offsite sales force, or a change from on-site to remote system management, the addition of a new product, and the connection of remote branches to the head office.

Timing depended exclusively on the needs of the company. Each step of the project was implemented at a time when it had become necessary to accomodate the company's needs and facilitate further growth.

Original Connection

The company is connected to the Internet through a single router.
The client's Web site is hosted off-site.
All sales data entry is manual.
System manager has to be on the premises.
Branches are not connected to the main office, and business manager have no real time access to their data.

Step 1: Connecting Offsite Sales Force

The client's Web site is now hosted on a Web server located in a DMZ (demilitarized zone).
On the same web server, another Web site allows the remote sales force to enter information in a corporate database through a proprietary Web application.
Sales data entry is done in real time by the sales people.

Step 2: Remote System Management

System manager is given remote access to the network through a specific VPN (Virtual Private Network) access.
System management can be outsourced.

Step 3:Accomodating Online Classes

Several Web servers are clustered to allow the client to offer its trainings to its students online. This dramatically increases the size of the client's market.

Step 4: Securely Connecting Remote Branches

Existing remote branches are interconnected through a secure Virtual Private Network.
Business managers have real time access to all data and make more enlightened decisions.
One system manager handles all the company's systems remotely.
